Styleinspo: (Current) Goals for Winter Style

I am back in the Midwestern winter after an amazing break at home. Classes have started, and I am thinking about how to stay chic while also keeping warm and bundled up. Here are some of the looks that are currently inspiring me to not simply wrap myself in my blanket.

To me, these all black looks are pure perfection.
I want to look like this every.single.day.

I am loving seeing tweed, burgundy, olive and camel coats on my
Tumblr feed and on the blogs I follow.
And Taneisha of Girl With Curves just always knows ....
One cannot talk about winter fashion without mentioning Parisian ladies.
I have mad love for the winter style of Andrea and Sandy
of the now defunct blog Paris Most Wanted.
For those warmer days, one might throw on a blazer, with a patterned button-up,
ankle-grazing chinos, a pair of bold socks (for a pop of colour on those bare ankles) and finish it off with a clean pair of brogues like Bianca of Avant Blargh ...
..... or like Emijaa Jaaemil. Camo has never looked this sleek.
What are you wearing to stay warm and stylish this winter season?

100 Days Of Positive Thinking: Day 47 (Happy Birthday, Papa!)

Yesterday was my papa's birthday! The most loving, wonderful, intelligent, empathetic papa in the whole wide world! I love this guy, and my sister and I feel so blessed to have him as our dad! Happy Birthday, Daddy! So glad we got to spend time with you on your special day before we left. Thank you for setting the bar so, so high! You da best!

Song Of The Day: 'America' by Simon and Garfunkel

I am back in the land of the U and the S and the A! My sister and I just arrived after a long journey. The journey was a bit challenging, but was also a beautiful experience because my sissy and I were together. We spent time watching movies and chatting and being us. I love that lady. To commemorate to our return, I will share one of my favourite Simon and Garfunkel tracks, 'America'. Thanks to my mama, I have been a big fan of this classic duo since I was a wee one. Their songs have accompanied me at almost every state of my life so far, and whenever I listen to any song of their, a memory montage literally runs through my mind. When I am about to return to the States this song always accompanies me on the journey.

"Gone back to look for Americaaaaaaa!"

Enjoy!

GoodReads: Books Read in 2014

Hi good people! I am a bookworm. I have had a mad love affair with books since I became literate at the age of three. There is something so special about becoming immersed in another world for a spell, stepping into someone else's skin and trying to understand them. It is escapism in its deepest and purest form. Over the last few years since I started college, I feel that other interests have usurped my attention, and reading has not been getting enough love. Last year, I joined a book challenge n May, where the aim was to read 50 books over 2014. I did not quite make it to 50 books, but I was able to read 15 books, which I am pretty happy with. So to share my love for the written word, I am starting a feature called GoodReads, where I review the books I am reading. I thought I'd share the titles of the books I read in 2014 below.

  1. Ghana Must Go by Taiye Selasi
  2. Everyday Is For Thief by Teju Cole
  3. And The Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini
  4. Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
  5. Coconut by Kopano Matlwa
  6. Half Of Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Adichie
  7. Love In The Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
  8. Time Is A River by Mary Alice Munro
  9. I Left My Heart by Debbie Macombe
  10. Night Dancer by Chika Unigwe
  11. The Help by Kathryn Stockett
  12. I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai
  13. Happy Birthday by Danielle Steele
  14. Animal Farm by George Orwell
  15.  The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

These books were a blend of Nobel Laureate standard writing (shout-out to Marquez and Malala, and very soon Chimamanda Adichie and Khaled Hosseini, in my opinion), and Chick lit (Danielle Steele and Mary Alice Munro). I thoroughly enjoyed the act of consciously making time to read for pleasure. This year, I am embarking on the 50 book challenge again. I have finished my first book of the year, Secrets of The Bending Grove. It is by N. Maria Kwami, who is not only an amazing author and activist, but also happens to be my mama's best friend. For my next GoodReads feature, I will do a review of her debut novel.

Goals: Styleinspo a la Cynthia (Simply Cyn aka Addicted 2 Etsy)

The style blog Simply Cyn (aka Addicted 2 Etsy) is one I have followed for quite some time. In fact, I am kind of hesitant to call it a style blog. Perhaps it would be better described as a lifestyle blog, 'cause it kind of has it all. Tips on music. Wanderlust-inducing travel photos. Awesome Etsy picks. And, incredible style inspiration. The lady behind the page, Cynthia, has created and maintained a versatile style blog that never fails to excite and inspire. Stay tuned, as l share some of my favourite outfits worn by Cynthia on the blog.

I tend to gravitate toward dark colours, but after a visit to Simply Cyn, I find myself inspired to wear more colour and print.

Her more formal looks are classic and sophisticated, but with a twist as she chooses
unique silhouettes with bold patterns and colours.

She is not afraid to edge it up. And it always works so well! She makes me wish that I had the courage to rock leather and knee-highs and make look them as good as she does.

She makes casual look so crisp and chic.

And this gorgeous lady has such a strong natural hair game!

For more, visit Simply Cyn (and wish any productivity goodbye 'cause you will be on there for a minute, lol!).

100 Days Of Positive Thinking: Day 46 (A lick of paint does a world of difference!)

I am so excited to share the progress of the project I worked on for the past semester, SUPS 1-4-7.My dad suggested that we make sure to get the painting started before I left Ghana, and boy, was he right. It looks so different! We have put so much work into it, but when the building was grey and drab, you couldn't really see the difference. After its been painted, it looks like a new building. We are so excited to see the progress. For more images, please scroll down.

The painted front of the school building.
The plastered steps (the handiwork of our masons) look amazing.
After the paint on the left, and the before the paint on the right.
The back of the school building.
Our painter (and my dad's longtime friend) Ayatollah, who did an amazing job on the
 painting with my uncle Kwame.

For more images of and information about our project, you can use this link to visit and join the SUPS 1-4-7 Facebook page.

Swoon ....: Joseph Gordon-Levitt

My dream-bae, Joseph Gordon-Levitt (JGL), has gotten hitched. I would be sad, but his new wife seems like an absolutely amazing person. My respect always increases for men in Hollywood when they date/marry someone outside the industry, especially a lady who is brainy, beautiful and seems like a down-to-earth person. So, kudos JGL! And congrats on your nuptials!
